037 PATTON - "HELENIQUE CHEVALERESQUE RECITAL"
CD 9 songs - Prohibited Records 2009
|
The band is
now a two-part, using their disitinctive talents as diy experimentalists,
inducing the resulting unadorned whines and drones of electronic oscillators
into the heart of their otherwise blues-tainted sound. While Max plays the
acoustic guitar but also the bass, Sam is playing the drums and electronic
elements. It's through the confinment of these heterogenic sounds and an
extravagant twin-tongued lyrics (both in french and english), that paTTon
creates a sequential music, with the confrotation of cut-up texs acting
as references to the listener. |

036 NLF3 - "RIDE ON A BRAND NEW TIME"
LP 10 songs - Prohibited Records 2008
|
The new album
was recorded and mixed by F.lor in Paris between July 2007 and July 2008,
and mastered in Los Angeles by John Golden. The first takes were recorded
at the Microbe studio on a rare Euphonix mixing desk, and were later arranged
at studio PUSH, in the 18th arrondissement. It was in the cavernous heart
of this strange underground laboratory that the three-piece diligently
crafted their efficient but ambitious songs. Amplified kalimbas, reverb-drenched
guitars, catchy rhythms, vintage keyboards and psychedelic vocals invoke
the holy trinity - Fela Kuti, Brian Eno and Tom Zˇ (the one of tropicalism
) - and take the listener on a voyage through a fantastical and enchanting
world, perfectly illustrated by the work of Japanese artist Yu Matsuoka.

CD 12 songs - Prohibited Records 2004 |
Nicolas
Laureau a.k.a Don Nino is one of those French artists who builds up their
own musical idiosyncrasy. Having shouted whispers within mythical group
Prohibition (1989-1999), he revealed for the first time his murmured cries
on his beautiful first album "Real Seasons Make Reasons". Today, he returns
with twelve impressive titles that slowly shift from softness to the blackness
of noir movies but also to lightness and sense of humor. The unit, produced
with a modern esthetics, locates Don Nino in an abstract community of
contemporary singers and musicians, somewhere between Arto Lindsay, Jim
O' Rourke, Devendra Banhart and Vincent Gallo.

Don
Nino, a.k.a. Nicolas Laureau, ex-leader
of Prohibition and co-founder of Prohibited Records, has finally decided
to release some of the material he's been keeping secret for a few years.
His uncommon approach to modern folk music gives an original form to these
songs. The album shifts from a mixture of deconstructed pop and bittersweet
bossa nova, to shades of jazz and darker atmospheres. On stage, Don is
accompanied by Lori Chun Berg on Wurlitzer, guitar, and trumpet and Shane
Aspegren (BSN, Songs:Ohia, Bright Eyes,...) on drums.
